Two Unexpected Industry Backgrounds That Transition Well To A Career in Insurance Adjusting
Maybe you’ve been thinking of a career change, and the world of insurance adjusting has crossed your mind, but you are not sure how to make the leap or even if you should. While excellent courses like the one AE21 offers will prepare you to excel at a career in insurance adjusting, you may be surprised to find out you already have some experience. There are some career backgrounds you may not have thought of that translate into more success and a smoother transition to the life of an insurance adjuster.
Today we’re highlighting two of the industry backgrounds that transition well to the world of insurance adjusting:
The first is the home renovation/repair/inspection industry. If you have a background in roofing, as a home remodeling contractor, or similar career, where you are involved in home renovations or repairs you already have more experience than you might realize to handle property insurance claims. If you are the one writing up quotes for the clients or even the one purchasing the supplies and getting paid for the labor, you will be well aware of the time and cost of such repairs. Understanding what is behind the drywall and what goes into the electrical work in between the framing, or the different types of roofing shingles, all this type of knowledge will make you much faster at understanding how much to estimate for repairs and even what repairs actually need to be done. It will help you not overlook possible unexpected costs that someone without that career background might miss. Even when software or standard pricing sheets determine that for you, you will have a better understanding of exactly what needs to happen. You will be more comfortable talking to homeowners and inspecting damage to the homes.
The second industry we want to highlight is the customer service industry. Any job where you are customer facing, employing soft skills of communication, understanding and empathy on a regular basis will serve you well in a career of insurance adjusting. Often when processing auto or home claims out in the field, you will meet people on some of the worst days of their life. Someone whose home was just demolished by a tornado or a hurricane needs someone who knows how to listen and speak kindly, addressing their situation. Your ability to treat them with compassion and understanding while also serving your employer with integrity will take you far in the world of insurance claims adjusting. You will also find great reward in being able to help and comfort people in their time of loss.
So if you are in either of these fields and thinking of a switch, insurance adjusting may be an easier jump than you realize. If you are ready to find out more, check out AE21’s training courses that equip you with everything else you need to know.
