For those who aren’t sure what being a claims adjuster involves, a claims adjuster is a person who comes in after a customer has made an insurance claim. Typically, a claims adjuster will be working with the insurance company to investigate the claim, work out what happened, and try and find the fairest settlement price possible. After a claim is filed, the CA will come in and take over the running of the process to ensure that it’s handled just right along the way.
They’ll gather intel, look into the claim further, and detail all of the necessary files and additions that would be required to get the whole thing to work in their favor. It takes a bit of time and learning, but doing it right will make sure that people can get the right settlement in the end. In a typical day in work, though, you will be going through a wide range of different tasks to try and find the perfect settlement price for everyone that is involved.
In the normal day you will be looking at claims and the various things that make them up such as police reports, witness statements, photography and other evidence. You will also need to interview the claimant at one point most likely, as you try and ascertain what the actual outcome of the claim should be.
Your typical activities, though, will usually just be spent reviewing and looking at various reports that are related to the claims. You will also be looking online for information about the client, their business, and everything else that may be available about them. Building up a strong character report is a big part of getting the claim just right and this will take a lot of time and adjustment along the way. You’ll need to go and survey the site that the incident took place on, as well, and this can take a long time to get it right.
Once at the site, you can take photographs and interview all of the parties involved. The other main part of your day, though, will be forming reports that have all the details in the one place for a simple and effective review later on down the line.
Especially if an incident is involving automobiles or vehicles, you will need to come up with a claims adjustment scenario that involves you going to see the local mechanic etc.
It’s a time consuming job – but one that can be highly rewarding financially.
